The joy of being a D.S.

Dan Dick over @ United Methodeviations has a great post on complaints to D.S.' http://doroteos2.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/pastor-pate/

This brings me back to the question of evaluating pastoral effectiveness...how do we do it? Is our job to keep certain people in the local church "happy" (the board, the trustees, the "elders", the biggest givers), or to keep the Bishop/D.S./Cabinet happy (pay apportionment, no complaints, staying below the radar, numerical growth), or to follow the call of Christ even if it goes against the local church and denominational powers that be?
